Nifty snaps 3-day winning streak, slips below 9450; Sensex closed at 30434
Nifty closed at 9429 levels down by 96 points or 1.01%. Sensex closed at 30434 levels down by 223 points or 0.73%. The broader market indices also closed lower in Thursday’s trade. The BSE Mid-cap index closed lower by 2.16% at 14750 levels while BSE Small-cap index closed lower by 2.04% at 15361 levels.
The Information Technology index was the only index trading in positive territory on NSE. It closed at 10545 levels up by 108.3 points or 1.04%. All the other indices were trading in red in the Thursday’s trading session. Wipro was the top gainer in the Nifty IT index trading higher by 2.85% at Rs 525.1 per share. TCS also closed higher by 2.84% at around Rs 2525 per share owing to its upcoming buyback plan.
The Nifty Realty index was the top loser among the sectoral indices on NSE. The index closed lower by close to 3.3% at 264.7 levels. HDIL was the top loser in the index closed lower by nearly 6% at Rs 89.75 per share.
IDBI Bank Limited on Thursday tanked by 7% as it announced its quarterly earnings result. It closed at Rs 70.30 per share, down by 7.38%. The bank reported gross NPAs of 21.25% and net NPAs of 13.21% for the quarter ended March 31, 2017.
Bajaj Auto's Q4FY17 consolidated results for the quarter were largely in-line with street estimates. Revenue for the quarter came in 3.3 % higher than the estimated figure of Rs. 4740 crore, but the operating profit (EBITDA) for the quarter came in 2.4% lower than the estimated figure of Rs. 928 crore. And lastly, net profit for the quarter came in 6.4% higher than the estimated figure of Rs. 810 crore. The stock closed at Rs 2973.8 per share down by around 2%.
As the investors received more clarity on the de-merging of RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group led CESC Limited, the stock has witnessed a strong profit booking. CESC Ltd’s standalone revenue for the quarter came in at Rs. 1572 crore, registering 6.7% YoY increase. The stock closed at Rs 829.8 per share down by 15.1% on BSE.
